
The southern-most Napa Valley vineyard has numerous Pinot Noir and Chardonnay
clones promoting ample opportunity for winemakers to develop maximum-flavored
wines. A member of the first class of “Green Certified” Napa Valley vineyards, Green
Islands’ proximity to the Napa-Sonoma Marsh makes it a major flyway for more than
200 species of birds.
Site Characteristics:
- Located south-east of Carneros, the region is known for cool, foggy mornings
- Soils are Haire loams with sand and gravel below 3 feet
- At this proximity to the bay, cold air is moderated, precluding the need for frost protection
- Slopes are gentle: 2-5%
Sustainability:
- Barn owl boxes are heavily used, helping to control
rodent pests
- “Green Certified” for environmentally beneficial
practices and habitat restoration
- Compost is applied to add organic matter and
slowly released nutrients
- Recycled water is exclusively used for irrigation
