The southern-most Napa Valley vineyard has numerous Pinot Noir and Chardonnay clones promoting ample opportunity for winemakers to develop maximum-flavored wines. A member of the first class of “Green Certified” Napa Valley vineyards, Green Islands’ proximity to the Napa-Sonoma Marsh makes it a major flyway for more than 200 species of birds.

Site Characteristics:

  • Located south-east of Carneros, the region is known for cool, foggy mornings
  • Soils are Haire loams with sand and gravel below 3 feet
  • At this proximity to the bay, cold air is moderated, precluding the need for frost protection
  • Slopes are gentle: 2-5%

  • Barn owl boxes are heavily used, helping to control rodent pests
  • “Green Certified” for environmentally beneficial practices and habitat restoration
  • Compost is applied to add organic matter and slowly released nutrients
  • Recycled water is exclusively used for irrigation
